Civil Service & Involvement
From 1998 to 2003, Trustee Araceli “Sally” Marrufo served as the Executive Assistant to the offices of the Village President, Village Administrator and Village Treasurer. Her experience in governmental affairs also includes serving as secretary to the Village's Police and Fire Board and Zoning Board. Sally also held secretarial positions on the village historical committee and beautification committee.
Trustee Marrufo was appointed a Trustee in July 2004 to fill a Village Board vacancy and was elected again in 2007. Trustee Marrufo collaborates with other village board members to set village wide policies and works to resolve complex community/business related issues. She serves as the Village Board liaison to the South Chicago Heights Youth and Senior Recreational Department with responsibilities for budgeting, planning, and execution of village programs and events. Additionally, Trustee Marrufo serves as co-chair of the Village Finance Committee assisting with development of the annual village budget.
Education
Trustee Marrufo has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Governors State University with coursework in human resources and accounting earning Phi Beta Kappa recognition. Trustee Marrufo is currently an NREMT certified and Illinois licensed EMT-Basic with Superior Ambulance Service and is a paid-on-call member of the Steger Estates Fire District.
Trustee Marrufo is a life-long resident of South Chicago Heights having attended local educational institutions Grant School, Washington-McKinley Junior High School, Bloom High School, Prairie State College, and Governors State University.
