Dear Resident:
The Village of South Chicago Heights is continuing a lead service line investigation program. Work related to the lead service line investigation program may be performed on your block in the upcoming week(s) by Stip Brothers Excavating. This work will include utility location flagging, exploratory excavations, and interior home inspections.
What to expect:
- The parkway and possibly your yard will be marked and/or flagged to show the approximate location of your existing water service. This work is done so the contractor knows where existing utilities are for when excavation occurs.
- Exploratory excavations may occur within parkway areas to verify the water service line material. During this step, holes will be excavated on the street side of the water shut off (B-Box) location. While this work is progressing, you may experience a time that your driveway may be temporarily blocked due to construction. Should you need access in or out of your driveway, please ask the contractor and they will accommodate you. This process should not last longer than an hour.
- Once work is complete, the excavated areas will be backfilled. The parkway area will be restored with seed and blanket. This final restoration may not occur up to a few weeks after the holes are backfilled.
- The contractor will knock on your door in an attempt, with your permission, to enter into your home and determine the service line material inside the basement or crawlspace of your building. Please only let contractors in with proper Stip Bros. identification and name tags at the time of your exploratory dig. They will look at your interior service line near your water meter or outside wall water meter or outside wall for less than 5 minutes and take a couple of photos of the service line.
Please contact Lexus Stipanovich at 815-216-6473 for any construction issues, or Village Hall at 708-755-1880.
