1. What are your office hours?

The Building Department is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

2. Do I need an inspection in order to sell my home?

All buildings in South Chicago Heights that are for sale must be inspected.  The fee for a single dwelling is $175. Additional fees apply for dwellings with multiple units.

3. How do I schedule an inspection?

To schedule an inspection, call the Building Department at 708-755-1880 ext. 112.  A 24 hour notice is required.

4. Does my rental property need to be inspected?

All residential rental properties in the Village of South Chicago Heights must be inspected annually per Village code.

5. What do I need to do to put up a fence?

A permit is required to install a fence. You must bring your plat of survey to the Village Hall. You may install the fence yourself or use a contractor licensed with the Village. Post holes must be 42 inches deep and require an inspection. Fences may not exceed 6 feet in height.  All fencing must stay within your property line.

6. Should I call anyone before I dig?

Yes. Call the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE) at 1-800-892-0123 at least 48 hours prior to any digging.

7. Where can I get a copy of my plat of survey?

A homeowner should have received a plat of survey upon purchasing the property. Otherwise a survey must be made by a licensed surveyor.

8. Can I have a pool installed on my property?

Yes. Please call the Building Department at 708-755-1880, ext. 112 for information regarding pool installation.
